Tweens, Teens, & Young Adults

I see tweens, teen, and young adults in individual therapy for a variety of issues including: anxiety, depression, peer conflict, school performance, disordered eating, self-harm, gender identity, and big life transitions. The teen and emerging adult years are full of changes - some more complicated than others. Therapy is safe space, free of judgement, that can allow individuals to explore effective ways to navigate some of the more difficult obstacles that may arise. I believe in working collaboratively with parents, families, school counselors, pediatricians, and others to provide an optimum level of care. Adolescent years can feel lonely, even when you are not alone. Knowing you have someone supporting you can make all the difference.

Play Therapy for Littles

Play is how children communicate best. Play therapy can help children name feelings, talk about emotions, and work through complex issues. Children experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, challenges with executive functioning, and life transitions can benefit from therapy. Play therapy has a number of benefits. Many children find their sessions relaxing, comforting, and enjoyable. Play therapy is often children’s first counseling experience. I believe it is worth while to make that experience a positive one. If children can learn at a young age that therapy can be safe, helpful, and supportive- I believe we have give that child an invaluable tool. Play therapy can help children communicate their feelings more effectively, while helping care givers learn skills to engage with their child around issues that may be hard to talk about or behaviors that may be hard to navigate. In addition, throughout the therapeutic process, children work through big feelings, complicated reactions, and discover ways to better understand their emotions and the behaviors that go with them through the language of play. Sometimes play therapy looks like playing. And it is! However, with an experienced therapist, play is the foundation of discussion and used as a way to talk about worries, work through past events, and learn tools to better manage emotions.

Parents Support // Family Therapy

Working with a family is such an honor and offers amazing opportunities for change, healing, and growth. In my practice the FAMILY is the client, and I will work to support all members. I am happy to work with families on: relationship conflicts, parent / child / adolescent issues, communication, identity, childhood behavioral issues, separation, and life transitions. Having a peaceful and fulfilling family partnership is a key element to living a happy, healthy, and long life. Parenting is amazing when everything is running smoothly but, inevitably, there are times when it's just difficult. Going to therapy doesn't mean you have failed at parenting. The opposite actually. Making the commitment to work together to bring about change is a sign of love and strength.
